[edlug] Re: ubuntu mac mini and netgear router woes

By the way it all works fine using the built-in wireless adapter or by using an ethernet to usb adapter.

I have a mac mini with ubuntu installed fully. I have it connected to a Netgear DG834N modem router via ethernet cable.

However, it only works for a few seconds before it loses the connection. The router light for the connected port goes out, and then I can't ping the router.

I had this issue on the Mac OSX side too when I was dual booting .

I have tried swapping cables, switching off ipv6 on the Ubuntu mac mini, but the same thing - no connection to modem router.
All other computers work fine with the Netgear. Googling the issue other people seem to have the same problem with a mac mini and their routers:

I have tried setting it up with a static IP. I then take the cat5 cable out and put back again into the Mac, works for a few seconds and then down again "destination host
unreachable"... I log out and then log back into ubuntu desktop - whilst its logging back in the other port lights on the router are flashing but not the one connected to the mac mini

Anyone know how to solve this one? I think it is probably something to do with the network cards on the mac minis maybe not being compatible with certain routers.
